Welcome to the LEAP RDBMS home page.

LEAP is a full open source project: It's free to download; It's free to use; you have full access to the source code; and you can do what you like with it.

These web pages aim to introduce the curious browser to the various features found in LEAP. Existing users will find all the recent news and announcements.

What is LEAP?

LEAP is an RDBMS (Relational Database Management System). It is used as an educational tool around the world to help students, and assist researchers and teachers as they study and teach databases.

How come it's free? Because it is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, and no charge is made or expected. Whilst all distributions contain the full 'C' source code, you don't need to be a programmer to be up and running - it's known to compile and run without problems on practically all major Unix implementations. A Windows 95/NT GUI is also now available, which is precompiled and easy to get up and running..

There's a mailing list for users to ask questions and receive announcements, and a full demonstration of LEAP is available online.

Recent News in Brief:

The book "Theory and Practice of Relational Databases", featuring a chapter on LEAP, is now available! See the Books section for more details.

LEAP 1.2.6 has now been released! See the Sourceforge download page.

The New LEAP website is now up and running, id like to thank FourFusion for the job they have done on the site.

The LEAP CVS tree is now publicly available.

There is a new download site for LEAP at sourceforge

You can now search for the closest FTP server holding the standard LEAP 1.2.6 source distribution, or for the closest Windows NT/95 distribution (1.2.5). Also via filewatcher.org

A full demonstration of LEAP 1.2 is available online.
