LEAP is a free Relational Database Management System. It is designed as an educational tool to help students, and assist researchers and teachers.
It is as an implementation of the Relational Algebra: It doesn't support SQL, so it's not like Oracle, PostgreSQL, Sybase or MySQL. The relational algebra is an important underpinning to SQL, and students will find that LEAP helps them better understand this vital component of relational theory.
LEAP is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, so no charge is made or expected. The distribution contains the full 'C' source code, but you don't need to be a programmer to be up and running - it compiles and runs without problems on all major Unix implementations. A Windows GUI is also now available, which is pre-compiled and easy to get up and running.
If you're an existing user, there's a mailing list for users to ask questions and receive announcements.
Full documentation is included on this site, as well as in the distribution. If you want something more then a book has been published featuring more detail about the software. You can help support the further development of LEAP by visiting www.theorypractice.org and buying a copy.
