LEAP is a free relational database management system (RDBMS) that is used by an increasing number of universities around the world as a part of their database courses. LEAP fully supports the relational algebra, and the behavioural components of the relational model. It is intended as a teaching tool and foundation for further work. Full information, download details, a demonstration, and online user guides, are all available from the LEAP web pages: http://www.dogbert.demon.co.uk/leap.html http://www.brookes.ac.uk/~e0190404/leap.html LEAP is under constant development, and supports a wide range of Operating systems including Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, Windows 95/NT, AIX and others. LEAP is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License. The standard distribution contains full 'C' source code, full documentation, and plenty of examples. Earlier beta versions of LEAP 1.2 (1.1.x) have been available for many months. This release is the first full release since 1.0, and includes many improvements and changes from 1.0 (the previous full release). Users of earlier versions of LEAP are urged to upgrade to this release. A mailing list exists for announcements relating to LEAP, and for discussions on all aspects of the program. To join the mailing list, mailto:majordomo@brookes.ac.uk containing the line "subscribe leap" in the body of the message. Subject lines are ignored. LEAP is available NOW from the following sites: ftp://ftp.demon.co.uk/pub/compsci/databases/leap/leap-1.2.tar.gz http://www.dogbert.demon.co.uk/leap-1.2.tar.gz http://www.brookes.ac.uk/~e0190404/leap-1.2.tar.gz ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Incoming/leap-1.2.tar.gz And will be available from the following sites in the near future (pending ftp maintainer placement): ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/databases/relational/leap-1.2.tar.gz ftp://tsx.mit.edu/pub/linux/usr/bin/leap-1.2.tar.gz See the above web sites for details on the Windows 95/NT distribution.
